I spent most of my time between 1994 and 2001 traveling around the world talking about the Future of the Internet. There were always a couple of gadgets with me. It is hard to believe that before the iPhone, I actually carried Garmin GPS receivers around to record the longitude and latitude of the city I was visiting. Even harder to imagine today is taking pictures with the Kodak DC260 digital camera. It seemed very advanced at the time. I built up a photo gallery of more than 1,000 pictures. That is a drop in the bucket compared to what I have since captured with iPhones.

Virtual travel was fun too, and I welcomed thousands of visitors to my favorite “places” on the Web. The page started out in 1995 as a list of my favorite ten web sites. Then it became the top fifty. Later I organized the favorites into a dozen categories which over time were supplemented with more than 75 sub-categories. At the peak there were roughly 1,200 links. Bill Machrone at PC Magazine wrote about patrickWeb some years ago and called my Favorite Places a “mini Yahoo“.

Over time the list of links became very hard to manage as sites either moved around or folded. I decided to keep the elements of the Favorite Places page for nostalgic reasons. None of the links are present but at least you can see what the categories were back then.

My Favorite Places are gone, but I hope you enjoy browsing through the Attitude LLC blog.
